Lexifind Help:
Scrabble

Scrabble ® is the most popular of a family of word games that involve drawing letters, and then taking turns making words with those letters by combining them within a common playing area. Every game in this Competititive Games help section uses that general approach, and although none has attained the popularity of Scrabble, each has its own devoted following.

General instructions for using Lexifind as a scrabble word finder, including many examples pertaining to Scrabble, are found in the Quick Start help sequence, and you should visit these instructions first before continuing further on this page. Once you have obtained that general background, the remainder of this page will take you step by step through the first few turns of an imagined Scrabble game in which both players have access to Lexifind.

When playing Scrabble with Lexifind, the first step, as always, is to load the word list with which you will be playing. Three Scrabble lists, Tournament Word List (TWL - for North American play) SOWPODS (for English language play outside North America) and OSPD4 (for School Scrabble Championship competitions in the United States) are available in the Word Lists column of Lexifind. If the list that you want to use is not already loaded, then you should load it before doing anything else.

Once you have selected a word list, you can check to see if a given word is in the list using the Check Words column. This quickly resolves any word challenges that may arise, and can also be helpful if you are wondering whether a particular word you have in mind can actually be played.
