Lexifind Help:
Quick Start
Here is a step by step introduction to all of the features of Lexifind. Each step will have a specific action for you to try at the top. After you perform that action, read on for a broader explanation of what that action does.
Step 1 - Load a Word List
ACTION: Select the TWL list in the Word Lists column.
The first step in using Lexifind is to scroll up to the top of this page and select a word list from those listed in the Word Lists column. If you're from North America, you will generally want to load TWL; for other English-speaking areas of the world you will generally want SOWPODS. For purposes of this Quick Start sequence, however, no matter where you are from, please select the TWL list if it is not already selected, as we will use it in the remainder of these instructions. Note: If there is a green box at the bottom of the Word Lists column inviting you to install Google's free add-on for Internet Explorer, we suggest that you take a minute to click on the link offered there, as the appearance of that box means that you have a slow browser that will run Lexifind many times faster with that add-on installed.
These are Scrabble ® lists containing hundreds of thousands of words representing three different Scrabble dictionaries. They are comprehensive enough to allow Lexifind to be used for any kind of word search, not just as a Scrabble helper. The word list that you choose is the one that Lexifind will search in order to find the words you are seeking.
If you have a DSL, cable or other high speed Internet connection, it should only take a few seconds to load a word list. But if you have a dial-up connection, there may be a delay the first time you load a particular list. After that first time, though, the same list should load instantly, even if you come back and load it a week later, so please be patient the first time. Once you have loaded a word list, you can start to check, and search for, words.
